Become a Volunteer

Volunteering to spend time with the residents at GlenWood Park will enrich not only their lives, but yours as well. Musicians perform for groups or go into individual resident rooms, and other volunteers play games, read books or just talk. We have volunteers of all ages participating in activities with our residents.

Elizabeth Muldoon has this advice for anyone considering becoming a GlenWood volunteer: “I would say, pick up the phone and call because you will never regret it. It’s just one of the most wonderful things that I have in my life. There are a lot of things that I would give up but this is one of the last things that I would give up in my schedule. It’s true”.

If you are considering the possibility of ministering to the elderly but you aren’t sure what you could do to help, our staff in charge of volunteers and activities will be happy to find something that will be beneficial for our residents and fulfilling for you.

To find out more, contact Becky Kidwell at 304-425-8128, ext. 240.

Join the Auxiliary

The Auxiliary was organized in 1968 to support and strengthen GlenWood Park Retirement Village by carrying out projects which provide a service to residents and/or meet a specific need, by encouraging the giving of money or items which enable the Village to minister more effectively, and by representing the Village and its mission in churches and the community.

The Auxiliary is guided by an executive committee made up of volunteers, residents and staff. The committee meets every other month to plan fundraising projects and to determine how funds will best serve GlenWood’s ministry.

Two of the group’s major projects are the Serenity Garden and the “Good As New” Sale. The Serenity Garden is a peaceful haven created by the Auxiliary for residents, staff and visitors to enjoy with fountains, colorful landscaping, a gazebo, and a wide sidewalk made up of engraved bricks. The “Good As New” Sale, held each fall, is the Auxiliary’s largest fundraiser. No clothing is sold, but anything else that is clean and in working condition can be donated for the sale.

Membership in the Auxiliary is open to men and women for as little as $1 per year or as much as $50 for a lifetime membership. Money made through memberships is added to proceeds from fundraising efforts to cover the Auxiliary’s efforts to enhance the lives of those who live and work at GlenWood.

Giving to Glenwood ~ What Are My Options?

  1. Golden Cross Resident Assistance Fund – created to benefit residents in assisted living who have depleted their financial resources. Checks should be made payable to: GlenWood Park, Inc. with “Golden Cross” written on the memo line and a notation made if the gift is given in honor or in memory of a loved one.
  2. Promise Program – Monthly gifts of $10, $25, $50, $75 or $100 may be made through this program, or donors may choose to give a one-time contribution. Promise gifts can be unrestricted or the donor may decide to restrict his or her gift to the Golden Cross Resident Assistance Fund. A form is completed that indicates the amount of the one-time gift or monthly pledge. The form also includes an option for the contribution to be placed on a credit card (Visa or Mastercard). Checks should be made payable to: GlenWood Park, Inc. The memo line should state “Promise-Golden Cross” or just “Promise” if the gift is unrestricted.
  3. Automobile Replacement Fund – Three GlenWood vehicles are used to transport residents to activities and doctor appointments. Gifts could help cover a portion or all of the costs when one needs to be replaced. Checks should be made payable to: GlenWood Park, Inc. with “Auto Fund” written on the memo line.
  4. Auxiliary – Contributions are combined with money raised by the Auxiliary throughout the year to fund items needed to enhance the lives of those who live and work at GlenWood. Checks should be made payable to: GlenWood Park, Inc. with “Auxiliary” noted on the memo line.
  5. Serenity Garden Bricks – Engraved bricks are being placed in the sidewalk in the Auxiliary’s Serenity Garden at a cost of $75 each. A form is completed to indicate the desired wording and artwork to be engraved on the brick. Checks should be made payable to: GlenWood Park, Inc. with “Brick” on the memo line.
  6. GlenWood Park Foundation – The Foundation focuses on deferred gifts made through such instruments as wills, estates, trusts, annuities, retirement plans and life insurance policies. Gifts may also be made at any time in memory of a loved one or in honor of a special person or occasion. Contributions to the Foundation are used to help secure the future of GlenWood’s ministry. Checks should be made payable to: GWP Foundation, Inc.
  7. GlenWood Park Foundation’s $80,000 Plan – Groups of 80 people are asked to contribute $250 a year for four years to help cover the Foundation’s operating expenses. Checks should be made payable to: GWP Foundation, Inc. with “$80,000 Plan” indicated on the memo line.
  8. Gifts in Honor/Memory – To recognize a special person or occasion, contributions may be made to GlenWood Park Retirement Village or the GlenWood Park Foundation. When a loved one dies, families may state in the obituary that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to either non-profit.
  9. Spiritual Life Committee – Elected residents and volunteers work with GlenWood’s pastor to coordinate the Village’s spiritual life program. Gifts are used for needs in areas such as Sunday School, Bible study, and Chapel services. Checks should be made payable to GlenWood Park, Inc., with “Spiritual Life Committee” indicated on the memo line.

Donations to GlenWood Park, Inc., and the GWP Foundation, Inc., are tax deductible. The Federal ID # for GlenWood Park, Inc., is 55-6022042 and the ID # for the GWP Foundation, Inc., is 55-0841768.

Donor Recognition Tree

In the lobby of GlenWood Park Retirement Village you will see a tree designed to recognize gifts made to GlenWood Park Retirement Village, the GWP Foundation, Inc., or the GlenWood Auxiliary. The 650 colored leaves represent gifts in the following amounts:

Bronze - $1,000 - $4,999
Silver - $5,000 - $9,999
Brass - $10,000 or more

The first line on each leaf is engraved with “Village,” “Foundation,” or Auxiliary” to indicate how the gift is designated. The leaf can be engraved with the donor’s own name or with the name of the party for which the gift was made if it was done in honor or in memory of an individual or couple.
